Low Carb Breakfast, Right Way To Start The Day?

Dec | Leave a Comment

If you’ve paid any attention to the latest diet trends, you surely know about the low-carb craze. How did this ever come about one may ask? It’s simply, really. Carbohydrates are one element of the human diet that provides our bodies with long-term energy. Naturally there is a downside to this wonderful energy source. If too many carbs or the “wrong carbs” are consumed, this can lead to weight-gain. Our bodies can only burn so many carbs at once. The ones that fail to get burned-off will naturally be stored as fat. Most folks dread this! The last thing we need is more fat on our bodies. This is where the low carb breakfast concept comes into play. If you begin your day with a low-carb meal, your body will have fewer carbohydrates to burn off before lunch-time hits.

In general, the standard low carb breakfast starts with eggs. Maybe you like them and maybe you don’t, but the truth is you’ll encounter plenty of low carb breakfast ideas that involve the incredible edible egg. I have a buddy who’s heavy into bodybuilding and he starts his day with six egg whites and one slice of whole wheat toast. This way he gets some healthy carbs to burn for energy and plenty of protein from the egg whites. Extracting the yoke is key. That is if you want to ditch the fat and cholesterol found in eggs. Eating only the egg whites allows you to get the good aspects, but minus the unhealthy side. You can’t beat that low carb breakfast idea. Also, omelets are a great way to get a healthy breakfast without a heavy dose of carbs. Try vegetable omelets for a wonderful array of protein and vitamins. Simply select a couple of your favorite veges, such as red peppers and onions, and dice them to compliment your healthy low carb breakfast.

Living in the age we do, you can certainly count on oodles of supplements. Regardless of where you shop, there are plenty of quick and easy breakfast bars at your disposal. Most of these are low in carbohydrates and high in protein. This way you’re able to feed your muscles and not your spare tire. So if you’re seeking a more convenient low carb breakfast alternative, this is perfect for you.

Slim Fast Low Carb – Late to the game?

Dec | Leave a Comment

Just when it seemed that the low carb diet craze had finally died down, I saw a commercial on television for Slim Fast low carb shake. I guess there are many still doing this diet, but I thought they were a little late off the mark. Whatever the case, it would seem that this is a good idea if your doctor has recommended that you are on a lower-carb diet. Though these diets are not for everyone, there are some that benefit.

I have insulin resistance, and was told by my doctor that I would benefit from a low carb diet, and that it might help me avoid diabetes in the future. There are medical reasons why people like me should have a higher protein intake, but my doctor would not recommend a specific fad diet. He said that I should just have more protein than carbs. Something like Slim Fast low carb might help me out, but I don’t know if I want to buy it. I would think there are other ways that I can get what I need, but these might be great for someone who doesn’t have the time to muck around exploring their options.

The basis behind any protein type diet is that protein can help keep blood sugar levels even. The ups and downs of your blood sugar will trigger hunger. If someone wanted to add the Slim fast low carb drink to their diet, they might have one in the mid morning and on in the mid afternoon. This would help keep hunger at bay at times when someone might be searching for a snack and they feel like they have to have something to eat.

Though these Slim Fast low carb drinks can be a great help, remember that they still have calories. Those made by Slim Fast might be lower in calories, but one should never get carried away when they are adding them to their menu. If might take a few days, but the affects should be noticed rather fast. If you are still hungry after having them for a week, they might not be helping you much. Don’t expect the Slim Fast low carb drink to take away all of your hunger, but it might help you curb it, and that might be the little extra push that you need. Sometimes, that one little thing is the difference between a successful diet and yet another failure.

Weight Watchers Diet Is Not For Lose Weight Fast

Dec | Leave a Comment

Finding the right weight loss diet can be pretty tough. Some people like to use a low carb diet, claiming that it helps them to lose weight much more quickly than other diet plans. Other people claim that the key is to cut down on fat and processed food. In my experience, however, the best thing to do is to find a balanced diet. I do not want to have to completely give up sweets, fats, or even processed food. I’d much rather moderate what I eat and start healthy habits that will last for the rest of my life.

Starting on the weight watchers diet was a pretty involved thing. Some diets are easier than others to start. In this particular diet, you have to keep track of everything you eat with points. There are certain weight watchers points for a slice of bread, 6 ounces of meat, or a cup of vegetables, for example. It is a complicated system which involves counting and tallying points every day, but once you get the hang of it, it is not so bad.

What I like about the weight watchers diet is that it lets me eat a bit of everything so long as I do it in moderation. If I want to eat desert on Tuesday, for example, I might have to give it up on Wednesday. If I want to have a hamburger on Thursday, I might have to eat nothing but grains and salads on Friday. Nonetheless, I get to eat at least a bit of everything I want over the course of the week.

Weight Watchers Diets are not the fastest weight loss plans. If you want to lose weight fast, you would do better using a low carbohydrate diet or maybe the Slim Fast diet plan. The advantage of a weight watchers diet over other diet plans is that it will help you to keep the weight off. It helps you to set up healthy habits that you can keep up for the rest of your life. Once you stop counting calories, you can still eat a similar proportion of fruits, vegetables, meat, and so on, and keep your health together. Staying on a severe low carb diet for years at a time, by contrast, is quite a bit harder to achieve. Once you are done dieting, you have to find a different way to eat.

Low Carb Recipes

Dec | 2 Comments

I was surprised when I first found out how many low carb recipes that were. You see, I have been having a huge amount of trouble losing weight. I have tried cooking with low calorie recipes, but they never filled me up. I hated being hungry of the time. You see, I grew up without enough to eat all the time. As a result, I was pretty addicted to food. I munched whenever I felt uncomfortable. A low calorie diet just wasn’t going to work for me. That is why I started looking at a low carb diet recipe book.

If you are not familiar with low carbohydrate recipes, you probably should be. After all, believe it or not you cook them every day! A steak and onions? Perfectly reasonable low carb recipe. What about eggs and bacon? Just the same! There are low carb meals everywhere if you just look for them. Unfortunately, healthy low carb recipes are little more difficult. You see, eating steaks, eggs, and bacon every day isn’t exactly the best thing for your health. Fortunately, there are plenty of low carb recipes that are healthy for you.

My favorite low carb recipe is salad. It is easy to make a low carbohydrate salad. As a matter of fact, as long as you don’t add potatoes or other starchy vegetables to it, you are almost guaranteed that it is low in carbohydrates. You can add anything you want to it – meat, avocados, nuts, vegetables – and it will stay low in carbohydrates. Adding a little bit of fat on to your salad isn’t so bad for you as long as it isn’t combined with high carbohydrate food.

We even tried doing low carb recipes for the wedding. We had a wedding planner who was skilled in putting together alternative sorts of weddings. They could cater for vegetarian recipes, vegans, Kosher dining, and everything else. We talked about doing low carb recipes, but in the end we decided against it. After all, a wedding is such a special day. You only have it once – at least you hope you will only have it once – so there is no point in wasting that day eating healthy food. Bring on the steak and wedding cake! You can start dieting again after the honeymoon. In the mean time, it is better to just enjoy yourself. After all, you only live once.

Free Weight Loss Plans That Really Work?

Sep | Leave a Comment

free weight loss plans

Is there really such a thing as a “free lunch?” I don’t know. Some people say, “yes” and others say, “no.” As for me, I don’t know. All I know is that if there is a “free lunch,” I’d eat too much of it. This would then lead me to look for free weight loss plans. The vicious cycle continues, I’m afraid.

As with 99% of things in life, most products and services are not free. If you do manage to find the 1%, that often is part of the other saying, “the best things in life are free.” If you are looking for free weight loss plans, there are a couple of things you must accept. One is that there are more weight loss programs than you and I can ever try out in our life times. And if it is free, you’ve got to take the info for what’s its worth. You may get some infor for free, but when it comes to specifics — you know, how to really work the weight loss diet plan — there is usually a price associated with the actual product and/or service.

Many companies earned a lot of our money selling promises in the lose weight business. Whether the weight loss program works or not is another story. It’s certainly not guaranteed. There are way too many factors like your attitudes and behaviors, your self-control, and even your genes. If you’re looking for a truly free weight loss plan, there is a way that won’t cost you mula, but it will involve investing your time. So it’s either money or time but investing your time may be the best free weight loss progam you can find. Here is our plan.

Make your own list of the most popular theories from the different weight loss programs out there. Look at the low-fat, low-carb, low-calorie, high-fiber and any other type of diet plan that is popular. Go to the web sites which offer these plans for free. Keep in mind what “free” is really worth most of the time. Ask yourself, “Does the theory make sense? Does the particular program seem better fitted for one type of weight problem versus another? What does the program base its success on?” Be on the lookout for sites with tons of testimonials that have asterisks next to them that say, “results not typical, results may vary” or something similiar to that.

You’ll see that the bottom line boils down to calories ingested and burned, regardless of the dieting theory. How they accomplish the bottom line is left up for debate. For example, if you go strictly with the high-fiber theory and regimen, you will burn calores digetsing all that fiber intake. But your body will also be denied certain essential nutrients as part of that process. The low-carb approach allows lots of protein and dairy products in your diet. But this plan leaves out valuable nutrients such as the antioxidants contained in produce. With any strict low this-or-that weight loss plan, nutritional supplements are a must. Once you lose the weight and return to a normal balanced diet, you will soon lose the benefits and gain back the pounds that you lost on that diet plan.

Your best “free” weight loss plan is one that is devised for YOU. Cut portions, count calories, and include foods from all the food group according to the nutrion pyramid. Add a daily supplment to your plan. Get some exercise regularly.

… Does all this sound familiar? Of course it does. It’s the type of advice that your mom would actually give you. Maybe that free mom advice is part of the 1% of free weight loss info that works.

Read more about the different diet plans from my friend, Sarah Conrad. She tried lots of lose weight programs and actually almost died!

Low Carb Oatmeal — Is It Any Different?

Aug | Leave a Comment

Table Spoon of Steel Cut Oats

I love low carbohydrate diets but I do admit that I miss my morning hot cereal. When I friend of mine introduced me to low carb oatmeal, I was thrilled. However, I have to admit that this version is not the traditional fair that I am accustomed to. This is a good thing, though.

The low carb oatmeal that I tested is a brand that I had never heard of before, McCann’s Irish Oats. I did experience a little sticker shock when I purchased the product. Low carb oatmeal is quite a bit more expensive than the rolled oats that so many of us are used to having on a regular basis.

The difference in price is due to the quality of the product. The low carb oatmeal offers a lot more nutrition than the regular brands. This is because the regular brands over process the cereal. First, the oats are steamed and rolled. The product is steamed again then toasted. All this processing depletes the grains of their natural nutritional value.

Get ready when you try a product like McCann’s Irish Oatmeal. This breakfast cereal is quite different in texture and flavor than the products that we commonly use. The low carb oatmeal is “steel-cut” which means that the oats are cut into a few pieces rather than flaked, steamed and pulverized.

Since the oats are closer to their natural state they are lower in carbohydrates. This is because the oats are larger and more complex. The texture and complexity of the low carb oatmeal is the primary difference from the processed brands. There are a few other differences as well.

The price, as I mentioned before is higher for the low carb oatmeal. The product also takes longer to cook. This can be a major drawback for those of us who are on the run in the mornings. I usually save the low carb oatmeal breakfast for the weekends because of the extra time it takes to prepare.

Some would ague that thirty minutes is a pretty quick fix for breakfast but most of us are used to “instant” everything. I can make a regular bowl of oats in a couple of minutes. A half hour spent on making low carb oatmeal seems like and eternity. Some like to prepare the ingredients in a slow cooker but this wasn’t convenient for me either.

To be honest, I consider the low carb oatmeal to be a completely different type of breakfast than the rolled oats that we commonly use. I do consider this new-to-me version to be a real weekend treat that offers better nutrition and a completely different taste.
