Balanced Body Pilates

I used to think that Pilates exercises were a waste of time. It seemed so gimmicky to me. I had always stayed fit, after all, and had done it without any of those silly exercise trends. I just played sports. I shot hoops, I jogged a little bit, and I played football on the weekends with my buddies. If I hadn’t been seriously injured, it would not have even occurred to me to try balanced body Pilates. Why would I?
But when I was injured in a car crash, my usual exercise routine crumbled. My whole body was stiff and sore, and I couldn’t seem to exercise with any endurance anymore. I tried balanced body Pilates on a whim. One of my friends had a similar problem several years ago. She was hit by a passing bus and knocked down pretty hard. She told me that doing fitness Pilates classes had changed her life. It is the only reason, she claims, why she can still walk at the age of 50. I figured that I had nothing to lose. I was unhappy with how my life was, and the balanced body Pilates classes might just help. If they did not, I would only be out a hundred dollars.
I was fortunate enough to live right by a Pilates studio. In the town where I live, there are not that many exercise places. It is a pretty meat and potatoes neighborhood, and so finding a balanced body Pilates class is pretty rare. I think I live next to the only one in the city. The first time I went there, I almost walked right out again. There were Pilates balance balls and all kinds of other silly looking equipment that seemed to have no place in an exercise class. All of the people in the balanced body Pilates class were housewives except for me. I felt like I didn’t fit in, and like the course definitely wasn’t for me.
I am so glad that I decided to stay. Almost as soon as the balanced body pilates started, I felt a little bit better. The whole thing was engineered to help the body develop the proper postures and the necessary strength and flexibility for healthy living. The balanced body Pilates helped me to make a quick and full recovery. Now that I feel better, I do not go as much, but I know that if I am ever injured again, it is balanced body Pilates for me!
Low Carb Breakfast, Right Way To Start The Day?

If you’ve paid any attention to the latest diet trends, you surely know about the low-carb craze. How did this ever come about one may ask? It’s simply, really. Carbohydrates are one element of the human diet that provides our bodies with long-term energy. Naturally there is a downside to this wonderful energy source. If too many carbs or the “wrong carbs” are consumed, this can lead to weight-gain. Our bodies can only burn so many carbs at once. The ones that fail to get burned-off will naturally be stored as fat. Most folks dread this! The last thing we need is more fat on our bodies. This is where the low carb breakfast concept comes into play. If you begin your day with a low-carb meal, your body will have fewer carbohydrates to burn off before lunch-time hits.
In general, the standard low carb breakfast starts with eggs. Maybe you like them and maybe you don’t, but the truth is you’ll encounter plenty of low carb breakfast ideas that involve the incredible edible egg. I have a buddy who’s heavy into bodybuilding and he starts his day with six egg whites and one slice of whole wheat toast. This way he gets some healthy carbs to burn for energy and plenty of protein from the egg whites. Extracting the yoke is key. That is if you want to ditch the fat and cholesterol found in eggs. Eating only the egg whites allows you to get the good aspects, but minus the unhealthy side. You can’t beat that low carb breakfast idea. Also, omelets are a great way to get a healthy breakfast without a heavy dose of carbs. Try vegetable omelets for a wonderful array of protein and vitamins. Simply select a couple of your favorite veges, such as red peppers and onions, and dice them to compliment your healthy low carb breakfast.
Living in the age we do, you can certainly count on oodles of supplements. Regardless of where you shop, there are plenty of quick and easy breakfast bars at your disposal. Most of these are low in carbohydrates and high in protein. This way you’re able to feed your muscles and not your spare tire. So if you’re seeking a more convenient low carb breakfast alternative, this is perfect for you.
Weight Gainers

You’ve heard of the people who’re trying to lose weight, right? They’re all over the place. It’s like I can’t turn a corner without seeing someone power-walking, eating a salad, or counting calories. We clearly live in a world full of obesity. But, these folks aren’t the only ones with a serious diet plan. There are others working hard to alter their bodies. While they may not be focused on shedding pounds, they are determined to look their best. They’re the ones struggling to gain weight. No, it’s not an urban legend; these folks do indeed exist. I should know; I’m one of them. So who’s up for some tasty weight gainer?
Supplements for packing on the pounds haven’t really been around that long. Do you think Arnold was chugging whey protein back in the 70s? Of course not. The guy probably had a crazy diet, filled with raw eggs, meat and calories galore. This was the way men built mass back then. I recently read a piece on weight gainer, and the body builder stated that he and his buddies used to chug gallons of milk back in the day. YUCK! Can you imagine working out and then heading straight for a gallon of whole milk? Gees, that doesn’t sound like a pretty picture. I would have probably hurled. Fortunately we modern-day males have weight gainer supplements to choose from. Now maybe the cows can take the day off. One of the best weight gainer supplements around is premium whey powder. This is a protein rich powder that lacks major fat content. This way you can have your cake and eat it too. I use chocolate whey protein powder as a supplement in between each meal. Each serving has about 25 grams of healthy protein. You can mix it with water, milk, juice or even yogurt. And guess what else? It doesn’t taste bad. Mix it with milk, and it’s like drinking Ovaltine.
A few other great weight gainer products on the market now are Muscle Advance nutritional shakes and Muscle Advance Weight Gainers. Both offer all the good stuff you need for muscle repair, and proper nourishment. Keep in mind that calories are crucial. You do want plenty of protein, but you also need more calories than your body uses. This way some is stored and you gain mass. Try whey protein and Muscle Advance weight gainer products and find out for yourself.
Low Carb Recipes
Dec | 2 Comments
I was surprised when I first found out how many low carb recipes that were. You see, I have been having a huge amount of trouble losing weight. I have tried cooking with low calorie recipes, but they never filled me up. I hated being hungry of the time. You see, I grew up without enough to eat all the time. As a result, I was pretty addicted to food. I munched whenever I felt uncomfortable. A low calorie diet just wasn’t going to work for me. That is why I started looking at a low carb diet recipe book.
If you are not familiar with low carbohydrate recipes, you probably should be. After all, believe it or not you cook them every day! A steak and onions? Perfectly reasonable low carb recipe. What about eggs and bacon? Just the same! There are low carb meals everywhere if you just look for them. Unfortunately, healthy low carb recipes are little more difficult. You see, eating steaks, eggs, and bacon every day isn’t exactly the best thing for your health. Fortunately, there are plenty of low carb recipes that are healthy for you.
My favorite low carb recipe is salad. It is easy to make a low carbohydrate salad. As a matter of fact, as long as you don’t add potatoes or other starchy vegetables to it, you are almost guaranteed that it is low in carbohydrates. You can add anything you want to it – meat, avocados, nuts, vegetables – and it will stay low in carbohydrates. Adding a little bit of fat on to your salad isn’t so bad for you as long as it isn’t combined with high carbohydrate food.
We even tried doing low carb recipes for the wedding. We had a wedding planner who was skilled in putting together alternative sorts of weddings. They could cater for vegetarian recipes, vegans, Kosher dining, and everything else. We talked about doing low carb recipes, but in the end we decided against it. After all, a wedding is such a special day. You only have it once – at least you hope you will only have it once – so there is no point in wasting that day eating healthy food. Bring on the steak and wedding cake! You can start dieting again after the honeymoon. In the mean time, it is better to just enjoy yourself. After all, you only live once.
Child Obesity Prevention, What You Can Do
Dec | Leave a Comment
Your Role In Child Obesity Prevention
There are a lot of people in my family that are over their ideal weight. Though they are not obese, they could be. The problems with family genetics are downplayed by many, but this does make a difference. It is also about environment and eating habits. Not only should your children have good habits, you should to. If you try to get them to eat well while you do not, you are contributing to the problem rather than solving it. You want think about child obesity prevention so that you know your children are as healthy and happy as they can be as they grow to adulthood.
One surprising thing that helped with my child in regards to child obesity prevention was her watching the Wiggles on television. She loved the Wiggles, and at age six, still does – though not with the same intensity. However, they Wiggles spend a lot of time singing and talking about healthy foods, and have even occasionally touched on what happens if you have too much of the wrong thing. Through these songs and shows, my daughter learned about good eating. I am surprised today at her choices. They are usually good ones and I credit the Wiggles for that – though I would like to think I had something to do with it as well.
You are going to have a hand in child obesity prevention, even if you have the help of influences like the Wiggles. You want to have good food choices around, and offer treats only sporadically. When they want to have a snack, give them some choices, but make each of those choices healthy. They may ask for other things on occasion, but they are going to eat what you have when they are hungry enough. Children will not starve, so don’t worry about that. You have to keep going with child obesity prevention.
You have to keep an eye on what your children are getting in school. Some schools are on top of things in the way of child obesity prevention, but others are not. Schools can not fix everything, but you want to know that they are getting the right foods when they are in school. When your children are in kindergarten or even first grade, they may have to bring a snack to school. I know that my school asks that we do not send in sugary items, and I don’t. Make good choices there for the sake of child obesity prevention.
Another part of child obesity prevention has nothing at all with the foods you have your children eat or keep in your home. You have to make sure your children are up and moving each day. Some can get great programs at school for this, but some have been forced to cut physical education totally or at least shorten the program. Children have to be up and moving while eating the right foods. Those together go a long way towards child obesity prevention.
Do-ahead Thanksgiving Dinner Ideas To Make Your Life Easier
Nov | 1 Comment
I don’t know about you, but Thanksgiving Day preparations used to have me worn out by the time the family sat down to dinner. It was an all-day production, beginning with prepping the turkey at the crack of dawn and ending with a frenzy of last minute activity.
Tasting each dish for proper seasoning, I felt like I’d been smelling and eating all day long. After many years of this routine, I came across a do-ahead book, which put a whole lot of ideas in my head! These days, all I have to worry about on Turkey Day is getting the turkey in the oven and brewing a pot of coffee after dinner. Here are some tips for easy and delicious Thanksgiving dinner ideas and strategies.
Instead of moving heaven and earth and all the food in your frig to make room for that 20 pound bird, try this tip from a seasoned Marine cook. Pick up your frozen bird at the store the day before Thanksgiving. (Be sure to order ahead of time!) Fill a large picnic style cooler with enough ice cold water to cover the bird. Close the lid. Before you go to bed, turn the turkey over. It will be ready to cook by morning. I’ve used this technique for 10 years. An absolutely safe procedure.
I always wondered why my bird didn’t cook in the time given on the directions. Opening the oven to baste is why. This Thanksgiving dinner idea is a gem. Melt a stick of butter and add seasonings. Slip your fingers between the breast and leg skin, gently separating the skin from the meat. Set the bird on end and pour the butter between the skin and meat, using your (clean!) fingers to distribute the butter. Place the bird breast side up on a rack, cover with foil and put it in the oven. The bird bastes itself. Foolproof.
Most traditional Thanksgiving pies, such as mincemeat and pumpkin, are great do-aheads. Freeze. Remove and thaw the day before and bake the night before T-day. The same goes for rolls and biscuits.
While your pies are baking, chop any vegetables you’ll use in your stuffing. Season and bag up in the frig until morning. Peel and cook potatoes, then bag them for mashing tomorrow. Cranberry sauce? This can be cooking while you’re chopping.
Good Thanksgiving dinner ideas have one thing in common – less work and more Thanksgiving on T-Day! Do-ahead appetizers are often the most elaborate and delicious. Search for recipes online that suit your menu and tastes. Shop these ingredients a couple of weeks ahead of time and spend a Saturday making these treats. Freeze and forget until Thanksgiving. While you’re prepping the turkey, bake your appetizers.
This Thanksgiving dinner idea plan leaves plenty of time for greeting and chatting, with a delicious repast everyone enjoys!
Heart Healthy Diets Are In

What is your favorite place to eat? If I ask my daughter this question, she always says the same thing. I would think her opinion would change rather frequently, but she always replies with McDonalds. Even though we only go there once in a blue moon, she still praises its happy meals and soft drinks. However, one thing I did notice the last time we passed through their drive-thru was the after-math. I’m talking about what happened with my daughter’s stomach after she ate that chicken nugget happy meal. She basically had a tummy ache. Now that’s no fun at all. Certainly not what you see advertised on the commercials. Although at first I thought she ate too much, my family doctor later pointed something out to me. Fast food is horrible! Since we only hit up a fast food joint a few times each year, my daughter’s body pretty much rejected it. We plain and simply weren’t meant to eat that stuff. It’s basically poison for our bodies. It’s time for some nutritious, heart healthy diets. Things have got to change.
Do you focus on good heart healthy diets each and every day? You know, your life could depend on it. Not to mention the lives of your other family members. Not to be insulting, but I’ve certainly noticed something about families in the last couple years. Overweight parents have overweight children. It makes me so sad to see a seven year old that’s already way overweight. It all goes back to the parents. They’re the one responsible for providing heart healthy diets for their little ones. Sure we can blame all the fast food chains all we want. But, the fact is we choose what we consume. It’s time to stop being lazy and start eating healthy. Believe me, it’s never too soon to begin heart healthy diets. You should actually start your little ones while they’re still young. This way they will have no problem continuing the heart healthy diets as they age. Things you want to be sure and avoid in your meals are loads of fat, salt, sugar, and cholesterol. None of these are good for your body. Focus more on protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals. These are the very building blocks for heart healthy diets. Don’t you want to live a long and healthy life? Then start eating like it.
Diet Information and The Media

Our society today certainly struggles with a weight epidemic. The media is more than confusing when it comes to this dilemma. While we are flooded with fast food adds, we then see how unbearably thin our entertainers are becoming. It’s an odd situation. People continue to stuff their faces with pizza and burgers, yet always seem to want that size six waist. There is probably no ideal solution to this age-old problem. When it comes to our weight and health, a reasonable diet and sufficient exercise always prove superior. Fortunately there is diet information everywhere we turn.
My mother is someone who has always struggled with her weight. It wasn’t until she hit her 50′s and became afflicted with diabetes, that she actually started taking it seriously. With the plethora of diet information I found via the Internet, I was able to help my mother get started on a path to living healthy. Understanding your body and how it functions is key in forming a good diet. Since my mother was already overweight, I knew that I had to decrease her caloric intake. She needed less fat, salt, and sugar, and more low calorie meals.
If you watch television, then you’ve surely been bombarded with diet information from some fitness guru. The key is finding the diet that’s right for you. We all have different nutritional needs on some level. While some of us need more fiber in our meals, others need more protein. A great place to begin your search for diet information is online. You will be overwhelmed by the loads of free facts that can help you get started. If you venture out to the local supermarket, you will find a variety of diet products. From frozen entrees, to quick and convenient snack bars, there is much to choose from. Many diet plans offer a variety of meals that contain low amounts of fat, carbs, and calories. These are things that our body often gets too much of.
Whether you’re looking to start that new celebrity diet, or simply desire some diet information, you will find it on the World-Wide-Web. The key to dropping weight is eating healthy and acquiring a daily exercise routine. With proper diet and fitness benefits, your body will soon transform into that size six you crave. It’s time to live healthy, and rid yourself of that burden, which too often destroys your confidence, as well as your body.
3 Day Diet Still Popular
Nov | Leave a Comment
The 3 day diet is one of those trendy little diets that seems to be popular today. If you follow the 3 day diet correctly, you can supposedly lose upwards to 10 pounds in just three days. That seems like a lot of weight to lose in such a short period of time, is it healthy or even possible?
While its certainly possible to lose 10 pounds or even more in just three days, it’s probably not healthy, and generally not recommended by health professionals. The 3 day diet is invariably frowned on by nutritionists as being an overall a fad diet that is not very effective in producing sustainable weight lose. Sure you can lose 10 pounds in three days, but the chances are you’ll put it right back on again when you finish.
The 3 day diet isn’t really anything scientific or overly complicated. It’s basically just your typical calorie restricted diet. Most formulas for it involve three meals a day consisiting of very limited portions of low fat, low sugar foods. Some examples of a few of the meals recommended in the 3 day diet include half a grapefruit and one slice of toast for breakfast; a half a cup of tuna (no mayo) and a slice of toast for lunch; and a three ounce portion of chicken, two cups of vegetables and one cup of ice cream for dinner.
Like many diets, the 3 day diet recommends drinking 4+ glasses of water daily, and allows you to add any low calorie seasonings to your food, such as Worchester sauce, spices, mustards, vinegars, salt and pepper, soy sauce or ketchup. It also allows for drinking tea, coffee, or diet soda, so long as there is no sugar added.
So does this kind of 3 day diet plan work? Chances are you will in fact lose some weight if you stick to it. However, going from eating normal or oversized portions to eating the kinds of meals recommended in the three day diet is going to through your body’s metabolism for a loop. Essentially, you’ll be on starvation mode, and the moment you resume regular food consumption you’ll promptly start gaining wait again.
The recommendation to drink plenty of water is really the only thing the 3 day diet does right. Everyone should drink at least 4 glasses of water a day, whether dieting or not, and ideally should drink even more.
Overall, the 3 day diet is not the best diet plan. If you are otherwise healthy and just want to lose a few pounds for a reunion, wedding, or some other event coming up on the weekend, the 3 day diet may help, but in terms of an effective sustainable weight lose program its not going to help much in the long run.
Discover How to Cook Vegan Successfully
Nov | Leave a Comment
Plenty of people every year decide to switch to a Vegan lifestyle. This means that you certainly are not alone when it comes time to break in some new dishes that you have been drying to try. However, it does mean that you are going to be rather amazed at some of the great unique dishes that are available to try out. Looking for several ways to get started cooking Vegan successfully is not always easy, but if you have some patience and a bit of time to really plan out a game plan you will find that it does not have to be as difficult as it might sound.
The very first step you need to take is a good accurate assessment of your current cooking skills. If the idea of walking into the kitchen to cook has you sweating profusely then you are again not alone, but it will mean that you need to come to terms with the kitchen. If your idea of cooking is running to the local take out and putting food on plates or even eating straight out of the box you will again need to come to terms with the kitchen. A vegan diet is possible, but while eating out is also possible it is not as healthy, nor will you find the same amount of options as you can prepare yourself at home.
Your next step is to determine how well you can actually cook vegetables. Many people think that vegetables have to be limp, boring and bland. This is actually far from the truth. Using several different cooking techniques, it is possible to make vegetables that actually taste good! Strange as it may sound, it really is possible and if you do not already know these methods you will need to learn them quickly.
You should also dedicate a bit of time to learning a few of the simplest recipes. These will serve you well when it comes time to throw a fast meal together so you are not late for a teacher’s conference or you have unexpected guests coming over. Of course, everybody wishes they had time to prepare a full three course meal but alas, this rarely happens so knowing a few fast delicious recipes is sure to safe you at some point or another. Just be very careful to stick to ingredients that are common in your house for these recipes so you do not have a collection of useless recipes with no ingredients.
Look into a couple of cooking classes. This will help you to really master the Vegan cooking lifestyle. Giving up meat is certainly not easy and while there are some great animal product substitutes available on the market learning how to properly cook them as well as ensure that they are prepared correctly is some valuable information. There is certainly no reason to sign up for dozens of lessons though, most people can easily get by on just 2 or even three fast lessons. Just enough time to really cover some basics without getting completely lost. Looking at this as a great learning adventure will allow you to get the biggest benefit possible, and you may even decide that you want to take some additional classes and further expand your vegan cooking skills.
